Root Terminal in the Gnome Main Menu
Entry Nr. 496, by user 1
Ways to add a root Terminal to the gnome start menu:

In Debian 6 I use this:
gksu "cd /some/where;/usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator"

some/where being the directory I like to start my terminal sessions in.

This doesnt work in Ubuntu. So on Ubuntu I do this instead:
gksu /some/where/root_terminal.sh

and put this into root_terminal.sh:
#!/bin/bash if [ "$EUID" = "0" ] ; then eval `dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session` /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconfd-2& fi exec /usr/bin/gnome-terminal $*

These days I use Mint instead of Ubuntu. In Mint, the command does not work with the "cd". So I only use this:

gksu /usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator
